How do other photographers/videographers feel about the proliferation of "service brokers"?

In my early years in business my only thought was hourly rate. Until, my accountant explained the unseen costs of operating a business. He basically explained to pay myself, or an employee X dollars per hour, you need to invoice at least four times that amount. If you are a one person operation, you are; the worker, sales person, bookkeeper, janitor, production manager. Add to that, equipment and all the overhead costs of your location and vehicle costs. As for the job brokers, they seem to want to make money at our expense.
