About Us

My name is John Engelbert. I represent Heartland Payment Systems as a Territory Manager in Maine. Heartland provides the following to local merchants and businesses: Credit Card Payment Processing, Payroll Processing, Gift & Loyalty Marketing, Business Lending and more.

Heartland can now help a merchant use the spending patterns of their patrons for analytics, and furthermore help with marketing through social media and e-mail campaigns.

When I was looking for a great company to work-for, amongst the most important criteria that I had considered were these: One, a high quality employer and clear leader in their industry; secondly, a company that cares deeply about their employees; and third, and perhaps most importantly, one that offers outstanding service to their customers. Our merchant/clients expect and deserve to have their payments processed for their patrons safely, to be able to track transactions clearly, and to fund their bank account securely. However we did re-enlist the help of a former source of lead generation, Home Advisor, during what is typically a slow season late Summer. Pricey and sometimes unreliable, but we consider won business often becomes repeat business that you do now have to advertise-to again. As for marketing, I now also sell Analytics through Heartland Payment Systems. This is included at its basic level, but has an add-on for Social Media and E-mail Marketing. And it is based upon your very own patrons! Would love to share more.

I love it when they say this! My response can vary, but for one, might sound like this: "Is that what you're looking for, the lowest price?" I might then ask what that price quote included, because quite frankly my quote is ALWAYS the BEST VALUE. However without the benefit of exhaustive amount... (more) I love it when they say this! My response can vary, but for one, might sound like this: "Is that what you're looking for, the lowest price?" I might then ask what that price quote included, because quite frankly my quote is ALWAYS the BEST VALUE. However without the benefit of exhaustive amount of time to make a decision, that pending in many cases by a deadline to make numerous decisions (for instance when opening a new business), therefore a client is going to make a decision based upon their own value proposition AND time. So keenly uncovering their true value categorically, and in the scope of their entire business values are keys to forming the best response. Otherwise they are simply predicating their analysis through the scope of a price-driven decision and you are grasping at straws hoping their value matches yours. Build value over price, but not before uncovering what is truly driving their decision.

Thumbtack has been the least expensive (although lately they have slowly crept-up with their prices), but are a bit too-clandestine and stand-offish with Service providers in their approach. They tend to over-protect potential buyers by not revealing critical data such as address, phone# and... I can type a note to them, can post photos and testimonials on my profile page, but naturally cannot give an accurate estimate until they invite you to take the next steps. I can say that over the past four or so years I have gotten some good business from them, however because of these issues my success rate of just getting to the customer is relatively low. An "aha moment" came when an inquiring client had also contacted me directly, and said that they had tried Thumbtack without realizing that they were using a service.

I have used Angie's List, Thumbtack, and Home Advisor for my Window Cleaning Business. Although I saw results, I found both Angie's List and Home Advisor non-cost effective for the long term and discontinued service. YP and Yelp were also very expensive, even more so than HA or AL.
