How do you feel about using a photo for a logo?

I think the photo never be used for logos. Icon, Text or graphic shapes are the best option and the designer have to do the logos in vector as ilustrator (more) I think the photo never be used for logos. How do you handle mistakes that you and your customers do not catch until the final job is printed?
