As a service company referrals are the gold that we operate on and without good solid referrals, regular marketing for us is throwing good money after bad. After being in the industry for years, working inside a company causes you to consolidate your contacts and work on turing them into regular clients. Several of the first large scale events we did came from employees that had family and friends already involved in upcoming projects.

To be honest we have failed at a solid Christmas Party of the last 2 years. As half or staff are freelance engineers, getting everyone together at the same time is rather challenging. This year, the Friday before Christmas we are all meeting for a private lunch, at a local BBQ restaurant, and shutting down the office at noon so that the staff and freelance can all celebrate the year together. Looks like we will finally have a solution works for our crazy schedules! Now where did I put the production schedule for that day?
Freelace Staffing. They can ultimately be the face of the company during an event. If they are not on their game then SWP looks bad. That makes my life difficult interesting the Project Manager who has to salvage what I in the end have no control over.

Failure is only a learning process to success. Being in the service industry brings some interesting challenges when talking about what your services or product is worth. You determine their worth, not the customer. Yes there are market forces at play but ultimately you decide wether or not you are willing to perform those services for X amount of compensation. When I landed in my first role as an Operations/General Manager of a failing production house, I looked over the revenue streams and immediately raised all pricing across the board. I basically destroyed 1/3 of the existing clientele and then proceeded to triple the revenue in 4 years. There is such a thing as toxic clients, don't ever let anyone tell you that loosing a client over price is a bad thing. Build relationships, not customers.
