(more) Hi Karen,  Like many responses get the word out via past co-workers, friends, organizations you might have friends as members. Both on your personal and Business page get busy on Facebook.  We ask everyone for a referral, even after 14 years we feel it’s imperative. Try to avoid paying advertising / marketing programs. It’s expense and your ROI is low. They don’t know how to promote your personal skills and knowledge.   Give your card to everyone, be sure it’s not generic- let it pop! Your card needs to be the first impression.  Being homebased we suggest teaming up with your local coffee shop where you can meet your potential and current clients vs your home. Some smaller independent coffee shops have public notice boards. If you live in a community/ condo other structured community host a cruise party. Or destination party. Lastly some suppliers offer a listing under “find an agent” search by zip codes. I’ve had calls from clients in the past from the tool. Suppliers require either you take their training class or have produced sales or some both. Good luck, people are looking for us - help them find you with Facebook/ Instagram (for us now more powerful) / user friendly web site about you not a supplier website. Best in your new business!

It's your life, failures are actually "lessons in business" accept it, learn, stay focused; you'll overcome the "lessons" resulting in great success.  Why would I start this off with such a strong statement? I've had challenges, some would say failures; I disagree.  You may want the glory of being a business owner, or the status without the effort; trust me that's when failure is not a lesson it's failure! I started my own agency against all odds; my choice was in a dying industry if you believe the internet.  I've proved it to be a growing industry with the need for more professionals.  Why, because I saw a need that wasn't being met. When I ask other agents why they started selling travel or travel services they have one common response; "I'm passionate about travel and love travel".  When I coach new professionals that's the first indication to me it's about them and not the client.  That upsets some, this is a very personal service business it always has to be about the "client" not the agent nor the supplier. You'll be able to enjoy your passion for travel for yourself while learning more about destinations and suppliers to benefit clients. Competition isn't scary it should be considered your silent partner or adviser, pay attention don't get behind or stuck in the past move forward in your thinking; when times get tough and you find yourself sleeping in your office to save money as your building your business so be it.  It happens to us all one way or another, maybe not as extreme as that but in some context the same. I hear too often why would you even attempt to promote or continue in a business overrun by the internet and On Line Agencies?  First of all I agree, the www of travel or OLA are actually travel agents in the masses!  No question!  They are not professionals, they don't have the product experience, in-depth knowledge, they rely on social media reviews to promote products, suppliers who pay fees to be on their sites, deep cost cutting that actually can ruin a much deserved and hard earned vacation.  Why am I not afraid and continue on in this industry with these kind of odds? Simply put I'm not a travel agent; I'm a travel professional working for our clients exclusively allowing me to arrange or manage travel on their behalf.   Ask yourself if you're booking your next vacation, air or cruise this question? Will the OLA (on line agency) call the service provider to give them personal likes, dislikes, special requests only travel professionals can make or even advocate for the client as a voice not an email to customer service department. As travel professionals we also invest in our clients by being members of trade associations allowing us purchasing recognition with suppliers giving our clients exclusive perks, pricing and offers.  We have direct contact to sales managers who advocate on our behalf for our clients, you'll never find that booking with an OLA (on line agency).  Never!  Making it personal vs automated is the key to being one up on the competition nothing else. Not only do travel professionals obtain strength, knowledge from our associations so do most other professionals such as attorneys, accountants and even medical service providers all invest in themselves. In closing if you're about the products you sell, service you provide and see you're in it for your customers, clients or the industry as a whole and not self fulfillment you're going to be a success. Even with "lessons" once in a while. After all without these lessons how would one perfect their talents. This applies to many service industry professionals, not only mine.  This also applies to every server and bartender, I look at your as a "professional", your income often will be predicated on your service, recovery and interaction with the guests you serve.  Many servers don't believe this; that's self defeating. Will you always score a very successful shift in regards to gratuities, of course not! What about the big picture, the goals of being part of your customers experience, the rewards are endless if you treat your amazing skills as a business. Success comes from within with dedication, empathy, sincerity and you!    Failure happens, treating it like a lesson will result in success every time.

Have a great time and enjoy Hawaii.

(more) Hi Marco, I am actually at a meeting this week with an associate who has been developing a new CRM for Travel Businesses. With experienced agent meeting of the minds it's being released soon. It is a fix to the continued issues with complex programs that are and have been on the market for years. Other products require amazing amount of input with minimal results. It's been in development for two years and ready for the market very soon. If you direct message me later this week or provide a great direct option to contact you I'll be happy to have the company contact you directly or I'll be happy to assist. I'm extremely excited about this program and the premise of simplicity on our busy operations.
