About Us

PDXPERT Medical Billing is a local small business that provides medical billing and office support services to alternative healthcare providers. Along with billing claims to insurance companies we handle credentialing, insurance benefit checks, administrative and billing systems audits and training, and more! Even though we are in the 'business of healthcare' we believe that patient care comes first. We operate our company ethically and stay true to our high standard of service. Our long term goal is to lead the industry in redefining the business of healthcare.

How We Got Started

After nearly 15 years as a massage therapist working alongside doctors and other health care professionals I picked up a lot of the business side of things. A colleague recognized my organizational and critical thinking skills and trained me on medical billing. Five years later I've turned it into a business and began serving individual practitioners and clinics throughout Portland Oregon.

If it’s easy to learn and easy to use the best marketing tool you have it is to get it in front of providers. I would recommend group and private sessions to show off the key features of your software to get them interested. If you come with lunch even better! This isn't for lack of caring, certainly healthcare providers care about their patients, it's simply that our world is shifting into an electronic interface and not everyone is aware of or knowledgeable about cyber security and HIPAA regulated software. I think the biggest challenge is to bring healthcare clinics and individual practices into the technological age without compromising patient data and privacy.

Even though they need income, because at the end of the day it is a business, that’s just not why they got into the industry. They often trust the people they’ve put into those positions to take care of that for them.  If they are doing it themselves they practically need a whole other education to be able to run the business and deal with insurance. I recommend to my clients and providers that I present to to know yourself and your limits, and there’s no shame in having somebody else do it for you.

Yes yes yes! Many employers choose to give a monthly stipend to employees for them to acquire their own insurance so that they may keep it past the time of their employment. I believe it is also beneficial to provide paid vacation and sick days if it is possible for the business to do so.  (more) Yes yes yes! I list out my duties, tasks and responsibilities and then categorize them. The categorized list is what I would consider my job description. Then if asked for a detailed look at that description I just give them the original list that was created. (more) I list out my duties, tasks and responsibilities and then categorize them. This also means that it is hard to understand my job and the facets involved. I have found typing up instructions, educational materials or newsletters from time to time can be helpful for my clients who go out of their way to learn more on their own. Otherwise I stay as available as I can to my clients to educate them on what it is that they need to know - on what they ask to learn! My teacher always said "you shouldn't answer a question that hasn't been asked because the information won't stick". I try to keep that in mind.
