In 1993, our company founder Joe Guth was the sous chef at Zefiro, a groundbreaking restaurant in Portland's emerging culinary scene. When he couldn't find his favorite items, Joe realized other chefs might be similarly frustrated. Thus began Provvista Specialty Foods, with a simple notion: to provide local restaurants with the best quality food products at a fair price.
In 2011, our parent company The Chefs' Warehouse acquired Provvista from our three founders: Joe and Karen Guth along with their third partner (and first employee) Tom Kooiman. We operate as a DBA because there is recognition that our location remains a touchstone for a unique product mix, and passionately educated staff that speaks to the needs of area Chefs.
The Chefs' Warehouse family of companies currently includes: Dairyland, Michael's Finer Meats & Seafoods, Allen Brothers, Bel Canto, Qzina, and Del Monte Meats. We have locations servicing restaurants, hotels, country clubs and gourmet food stores in practically every culinary market across North America. This focus on growth has given us even better insight into the ingredient demands of kitchens today.
