A CPA is essential for filing complex tax returns. I benefitted from a CPA when I was required to file both a corporate and a form 1040-SS Self-Employment Tax Return. My personal tax return is complicated by multiple independent contractor income sources. I have also worked with very adept senior tax preparers with H&R Block. CPA's bill at a higher rate and assume greater liability for the accuracy of a return.
