How We Got Started
Following completion of 20 years practice as an emergency physician, surgeon, traumatologist and researcher in spine trauma, public health and environmental medicine, Ahimsa Porter Sumchai MD, NSCA-CPT was established in 2005 at Back To Sports on West Portal Avenue in San Francisco offering fitness, nutrition and research consultations. Having served for ten seasons as an emergency physician for stadium operations San Francisco Giants MLB, Dr. Sumchai was inspired to pursue sports medicine as an ER subspecialty.
Golden State MD Health & Wellness - a professional corporation - was first established in Sacramento in July of 2016 and expanded to San Francisco locations in 2018. Operating from the award winning private studio - Synergy Laurel Heights.
Golden State MD offers telehealth services powered by VSee - a platform developed by NASA to transmit encrypted, HIPAA compliant messaging from the international space station.

Not well! I conduct telemedicine consults weekdays from 10am to 1pm and cold calls to my office phone or mobile not only interrupt patient medical confidentiality..but violate state and Federal patient privacy laws. Additionally, I need my mobile to connect with patients having trouble accessing the TeleMed platform or facing connectivity issues due to poor WiFi connections or technical inexperience. The fastest way to set my hair on fire is to make a cold call to my mobile during a TeleMed consult.

My personal tax return is complicated by multiple independent contractor income sources. I have also worked with very adept senior tax preparers with H&R Block. CPA's bill at a higher rate and assume greater liability for the accuracy of a return.
It depends on what you are marketing...and where you post them! In the health, wellness and fitness industry I am convinced flyers are second only to a unique business card as a promotional aid. Posting flyers at health fairs, coffee shops, sports and fitness apparel outlets and at marathon...

It depends on what you are marketing...and where you post them! In the health, wellness and fitness industry I am convinced flyers are second only to a unique business card as a promotional aid. Posting flyers at health fairs, coffee shops, sports and fitness apparel outlets and at marathon events can be a low cost, highly effective means of marketing. Research shows people seek health and fitness services in close proximity to where they live or work. It costs less than $25 to run off and distribute a flyer in the neighborhood within a mile of your service.

I was inspired to transition from Emergency Medicine and physician burnout after spending 10 seasons as an emergency physician for the San Francisco Giants MLB stadium operations beginning in the year 2000. I also wanted to blend traditional medicine with alternative proven interventions...most specifically exercise! I have always valued physical fitness and trained at age 6 in ballet and acrobatics. I worked with a semi professional dance troupe under the direction of Dr. Nontsizi Cayou at San Francisco State University and began by college education in the Health Sciences Department. It is now vanguard to accept the full integration of physical medicine into the medical curriculum.

Halloween on Sacramento and Spruce streets in San Francisco has become a holiday tradition and merchants along the Sacramento strip use the parade of children and parents dressed in holiday "finery" to promote and welcome visitors. As a health, wellness and fitness center we shy away from promoting candy and unhealthy treats but offer an open house to curious passer bys! I have found two simple low cost interventions as helpful tools in driving traffic to a business located on the ground floor on a merchant corridor. The first is a simple "A frame" sign used to announce and promote business features. The second is a shiny aluminum water bowl set strategically outside the entry way for doggie owners that entices neighborhood "alpha dogs" to lead their unsuspecting owners inside.

To Walgreens for a safe, inexpensive topical analgesic cream! Did you know you can purchase the topical local anesthetic lidocaine cream in a 4% concentration at any drug store or supermarket? Topical analgesics including methyl salicylate, menthol, camphor and capsaicin have been proven effective for treatment of both local and deep joint pain and reduce the likelihood of adverse effects seen in OTC and prescription NSAID's, opiates and muscle relaxants.
My personal and professional favorite are SalonPas patches. These patches cost about $12 for 60 and are available everywhere. They are easy to travel with and are a safe and effective method of pain relief for myofascial, musculoskeletal and musculotendinous pain. SalonPas patches are formulated with topical aspirin as methyl salicylate, menthol and camphor.
I compound my own topical analgesic cream by combining topical lidocaine in a 4% preparation with menthol in a 10% preparation along with 4% camphor and 0.1% capsaicin. This compound is prescribed as LidoPro and is available by prescription for about $450 a tube. I purchase the generic ingredients from a local pharmacy in standardized OTC preparations for about $20 and this makes the equivalent of 4 tubes of LidoPro!
