I take pictures of the pets and full water/food bowls on the final visits to prevent accusations the pets were unfed. I leave notes and send texts about arrival and chores completed. My business is based on high ethical standards and trust. I would not have a viable business is not, and I am fully bonded/insured. Many hobby pet sitters are not.

On a new pet sit, and had not met the pet, the kitty bumped her auto toy as a signal she wanted it turned on. And I know when to avoid unwanted attention by reading signals from wide eyes, hunched backs, lashing tails, and set-back ears. Dogs also have their own communication methods. Did you know a Pit Bull is easiest to read because of fur lack? And when a pooch raises its paw, it is a calming gesture. Hope to use some of this knowledge when I join a pet rescue operation later this year. You can read more about animal behavior on the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) web site. Took an online course there recently.

Steady income from noon dog walks is desperately needed. My most lucrative client left me late last year after five years' service. I notified her I was raising my rates after four years. The latter trains veterinarians who work in animal shelter environments.

As a Sole Proprietor pet sitter, If I let my clients dictate my rates, I lose my integrity as a professional go-to animal care person. (more) As a Sole Proprietor pet sitter, If I let my clients dictate my rates, I lose my integrity as a professional go-to animal care person.
