Handmade jewelry reflecting my love of the earth by creating one-of-a-kind designs using natural resources, found items and recycled material including salvaged copper fabricated into unique designs, sterling silver recycled from scraps, seaglass, tumbled glass, wood, bone and, of course, gemstones – many found in the mountains of North Carolina
How We Got Started
I've always been "crafty." And loved the idea that the Little People do walk among us. When my daughter was young, we made stepping stones. She said, "Mama, we can put this in the woods for the elves and fairies to dance on." Hence the name elfstones.

I provide unique, handcrafted jewelry that brings out the gem in you. I use repurposed, recycled and second-hand materials; earth-friendly, earth inspired. The best reward I get is someone finding a piece of jewelry that fits them as if I made it for them.

It's odd - I found that when I raised my prices, I sold more. But - I had a man try to buy four items for the cost of two. I explained how much time it took me (4 hours), the cost of supplies and that all my work is handmade, not a resell. He obviously was used to negotiating a price and didn't...

He obviously was used to negotiating a price and didn't quite get that art is totally different from a service. His wife gave him a dirty look :) I have a pricing formula that works quite well - it takes into account packaging, the cost of the space, travel, etc.
Are you speaking of a retail store or sharing a studio only? There are many artists' markets, communities around Raleigh including ArtSpace. Also, many mini-malls such as one in Fuquay-Varina. One of my dreams is to have a big enough building where artisans, craftspeople and musicians can have...

One of my dreams is to have a big enough building where artisans, craftspeople and musicians can have studios. Part of that business plan would be to have kids' camps, especially during the summer and track-outs, classes and special workshops. I love to teach people and see the light in their eyes when they "get" something. A very good example is Cloud Nine in Nags Head, NC. Ginny Flowers has been in business for over 25 years as a sole proprietor.

Of course, you have to offer something in return. Do you have education benefits? Example: I would take a pay cut if a company reimbursed me for a GIA certificate.

I use PayPal with its free buttons for checkout. WordPress has many, many free templates. Whoever you registered your domain with should also offer free site builders. You've already paid them to register and host your domain. Make use of the tools.
I've found a web site that's been optimized for search engines, Facebook and word-of-mouth. But I am a part-time one-woman business.
