The motivation behind this is that the customer is wanting the money back. He, or she, is attempting to use manipulation for profit. Completely unprofessional. I have had this happen on occasion where a customer will demand a lower price or a negative review will be placed. I think to myself "What the %#^* ?"
Let's face it. As a business owner we try our best and at times the customer may not be happy with our business. We will get a negative review sooner or later. The negative review is a way to improve our business. For example, we own a towing business that repossesses cars and impounds improperly parked automobiles. We have almost 100% negative reviews in that business. No person likes the repo man. Another business we own has almost 100% positive reviews. Y
Negative reviews are a chance to improve - when they are honest feedback.
Respond to the review (a few days later). Never answer a negative review quickly. An angry person behind a keyboard is never good. Respond with an apology, recap the situation, and ask them to contact you. Then leave it at that (don't dwell on it).

For Intentional Negative Reviews to Destroy Your Reputation
Despite what is forbidden in media, I have an attorney on retainer that will contact the individual who places the intentional negative review with a cease and desist letter served by a process server. This is in the case that the individual does what is threatened or a competitor that is trying to score a point or two. How you can handle this is different. If it is a Yelp(er) document the interaction and the threat. Send that info to Yelp. They will take action.
Stop Negative Customers In Thier Tracks
Evaluate how this customer came to you, what they requested, and if any signs were present. Then put some roadblocks in the way. We often would have persons call our company to get a tow only to show up and no-one be present or have another company on scene. We did two things, We raised our prices to keep trouble at bay, and we require pre-payment by phone before a driver goes out. This may not be a perfect match as to your business but this will start your thinking on the process.
Combat Negative Review With Positive Reviews
Remember to ask all your customers if you exceeded their expectations. If not, take care of it in person. If so, ask them to take a moment to leave feedback. Then follow up with an email or a postcard asking for the review after about 3 days. Not every customer will review you but it will increase your positive reviews.
Don't let this small threat ruin your day. It happens to more businesses than you think. It takes a certain type of person to make such a threat ;-).
