What motivates you to network?

Productive relationships are built by strategically choosing which networks are most important to achieve your long and short term goals. Prior to a networking event, set your expectations. Research who will be in the room and reach out to them to let them know you will be there. If a mutual connection can introduce you to a key decision-maker, all the better. However, do not discount introductions to lower level staff... they are the gatekeepers you want to support your ideas.
Place your name tag on the right just beneath your shoulder. This is where eyes will land when you reach out to shake someone’s hand. Practice your listening skills for optimal engagement. Offer something that person wants and needs... an introduction, a resource, etc.
Happy Networking!
