Creating a relationship is the first step in getting referrals. Asking for a referral prematurely is like asking the opposite sex to marry you at the initial meeting. People do business with and refer others to those they Know, Like and Trust. In conclusion, be Visible, establish Credibility and be known as a "referral giver", not the "referral asker". The referrals will come naturally.

If you have a customer that is very pleased and makes complimentary comments, that is the time to ask for a testimonial letter or a referral.  Video testimonials by happy customers are priceless! :-)

You can also ask for permission to use their quotes on a form you print:

WHAT MY CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING

List the quotes and first name of the customer unless they give you permission to use their full name and company name.
