There are many signs to indicate a business relationship is not working out well.  One is lack of accessibility with the parties, where one perpetually becomes harder to reach or visit in person.  No relationship, be it personal or business, can work well without ACCESSIBILITY.  

Another is the "loss of energy" that transpires when you speak by phone or meet in person.  If one is observant, s/he can sense intuitively when the energy between you and your business colleague is dwindling.  The best way is to ask:  "Is there anything that is bothering you?  or How may I make our business relationship improve?"  This elicits their input providing you LISTEN ACTIVELY to their reply.  These are JUST TWO of the obstacles or roadblocks that can occur in business relationships.
