First, make sure your communication and work exhibits professionalism in your area and the work is performed with the highest quality.  Always communicate with the client as the job progresses keeping the client informed at all times.  Ask for a referral when the job is complete and thank them for the referral.  You might even send them a thank you card and some flowers or maybe a gift card for dinner at a nice restaurant.
