There is just so much to consider when recommending apps, resources, and even processes such as affordability, client/staff aptitude, collaboration, feedback, learning curve, pain points, timeframe, and training.  My approach has been to work with and test out a variety of the latest automated and content marketing-driven apps and workflow for my own marketing efforts. After a few campaigns, I then have the exposure and insight to pass on to clients needing a "hybrid approach" to build AIDA and a consistent "marketing message" across multiple touchpoints.

When working with digital assets for my clients' marketing and website projects, my go-to file sharing and project management apps include DropBox, Google Drive, and lately, Trello. If the client knows how to use Windows Explorer (or the Mac equivalent), it's just a "drag and drop" to share large image and video files. DropBox also has a "file request" feature by e-mail so clients can upload to a specified folder using their preferred browser.

(more) When I first started my web solutions business while still in college studying marketing communications (actually pre-Google PPC/SEM/SEO and social media mania), the emphasis was on providing affordable web design, hosting and associated webmaster services to local small and mid-sized businesses. Referrals came in literally from next door after helping self-employed neighbors better understand the importance of a high-quality website and how the up-and-coming "digital convergence" would impact their business decisions moving forward. Hence the importance and power of "word-of-mouth" marketing. Search engines and social media platforms alike have since placed a lot of weight on customer "engagement", including entertaining or thought-provoking content, direct reviews and testimonials. Fast forward to 2018, operating under Mpower Web Solutions since 2010, my company offers digital marketing-driven solutions and business/marketing technology training services with an emphasis on developing compelling content marketing campaigns, along with WordPress-driven web design to simplify content management and campaign insights. Mpower Web Solutions' mission is simple: To deliver value-driven digital marketing services and e-commerce solutions to a diverse clientele with professionalism and integrity. Since launching my business, I've worked with local and out-of-state self-employed business owners, small to mid-size companies, and even multinational corporations (e.g. HD Supply Solutions, Mazda USA) to help identify and overcome day-to-day "pain points" impacting visibility, revenue generation, and growth.

WP has plugins that will help simplify the process of securing your website and convert the http pages to https to ensure a safe experience using desktop and mobile versions of Chrome/Firefox/Internet Explorer/Opera/Safari. As a GoDaddy Pro member, I've helped SMBs quickly implement SSL Certificate installation, and apply the "green lock" https for their websites with minimal cost and setup time. Your topic is a real hot button these days for just about every SMB I encounter as a digital marketing strategist/e-commerce specialist and WordPress web designer for Mpower Web Solutions. I recently submitted a corresponding article on Alignable (http://bit.ly/MpowerWeb10Tools4SMBs) highlighting 10 affordable (even free) business productivity apps and reputable third-party service providers I use for my own client projects. From your article, we actually share the same viewpoint that SMBs need to take advantage of readily-available resources (talent, technology, and tools) to get their marketing back on track. I'd be interested in hearing any feedback from others here on Alignable who may be using these type of apps in their own marketing campaigns.

(more) As a small business owner and web marketing solutions provider to mainly other small businesses, personal referrals as "word-of-mouth advertising" are critical to driving high-quality leads and pre-qualified clients. Typically a quick FB Messenger group chat/e-mail introduction is all it takes to initiate a conversation to determine the "pain points" the prospective client is encountering. Some of my clients actually even hand out my business cards at personal/professional events. In all, I believe in and preach an "integrated" approach covering e-mail automation/lead generation, fully-responsive web design (WordPress is awesome!), Organic/SEO, Paid SEM, Social Media & Video Marketing.
