(more) Robert, focus on the job opportunity and show that your experience and knowledge can add value to their team. They won't waste time calling you in for an interview if they did not see some value in your resume. The interview is not about you, its about the job that needs to get done. I can empathize with your situation. I attended this interview with a placement agency on Friday morning just past. After going over my experience and knowledge, the interviewer tried to tell me that it may be days, if not weeks before they come across any opportunities. Your sense of being discriminated and patronized seized me by the throat. I looked her straight in the eye and asked "...do you have anything in the pipeline now?" She hesitated, and then told me that there is, but felt maybe I would be bored with the job. Now, that's a change from the "over qualified" stuff that they normally throw at us. We talked about the job and what I could do to fill the position. She then asked me the kind of pay I am looking for. I was honest and said that it does not matter...I am new to this city and just want to get my feet wet. I got a call that Friday afternoon to attend an interview with their client on Monday morning. Wish me luck for tomorrow. Long and short of it was that I went to the interview on Friday with great humility and focused on what I could do for their client. In return I got a positive response. I guess my bit of advice is for you to have a positive disposition and remind yourself that the job interview is NOT about you.
