For example when you need to buy a pair of shoes, you go get the shoes (software), but if you need to tie your shoes, then they ask you to buy shoelaces (apps that integrate seamlessly)  I hope that the Tied Selling will not or should not last long, as consumers will smarten up and get alternate means of going online &/or automate the data.  For us, we moved away from the Online Could Software and now are in the process of setting up our Server with remote access from anywhere in the world. And the data remains not in the cloud but on your personal drive and YOU are the owner Once setup, my remote staff from India will be able to log in remotely and I can access my desktop from anywhere in the world.  Also the online software companies pricing is either per user, or per app, or per month, or per client, or per transactions or any other 'per ...' that they can conceive of. There should be class action suit against this tied selling methodology the online sharks are adopting these days

But at the same time he/she needs to report the Income Earned in USA as a Non Resident Alien so Form 1040NR is a must along with State Return, if applicable. Prepare the income sourcing (from USA) and the taxes paid from the W2 (similar to Canadian T4) and file the US Tax Returns with the IRS. Armed with this information you can prepare the T1 and claim the Foreign Tax Credits (Federal T2209, Provincial T2036), Deductions U/S 20(11) , 20(12). Also look out for other tax credits if applicable in Form T626, T691 etc. All of the above options needs to be reviewed to optimize the maximum credits in Canada to ensure that the tax payer does not end up having double taxation. Note: If the tax payer moved from US to Canada &/or is a US Citizen, then he/she needs to fie Form 1040, as US is one of the only 2 countries in the world that has a tax basis either by citizenship or by residency
