In 2009, my vibrant, active grandmother, was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. Throughout her treatment, she made it clear that she wanted to remain in her home. At the time, I didn’t realize it, but honoring her wish would become my top priority.
On the day I got the call that my grandmother became hospitalized, I immediately booked a one-way flight home and moved in with her. It quickly became clear that she could not remain at home without around-the-clock care, so I became her advocate.
Like so many others, I experienced the strain of family dynamics while being the primary caregiver for almost 6 years until she passed. Unexpectedly, I also found a new career calling.
In short, I became an expert on home care by living through it.
