In SC the commission is not set by the industry.  The commission is set by each individual office.  So some offices charge 10% and some offices charge 6%.  Is the commission negotiable?  Yes and No...depending on what you are willing to give up during the marketing of your home.   A lot of folks don't realize that we spend a great deal of money marketing their home as well as showing it to potential buyers.  Remember, you get what you pay for in this world.  Always hire a professional and it will be worth every dime that you spend with a competent Realtor.
