How Do You Get People to Understand That They Are Losing Money if They Do Their Tax Returns Themselves?

For a taxpayer that doesn't have itemized deductions, they are probably ok filing their own taxes. Or IF they can file the Ez forms. IF they have various types of income and expenses or any type of business then they might be better off with a professional tax preparer.
I would say to offer a review of their previous year return and see if they missed any deductions or credits that would have been beneficial to them. That is how to convince them that your professional services would help them, that and if they itemize your services are a deduction.
