I prefer a Friday so I can "slide" into the weekend afterward. Mid week is very difficult. I don't really like local live CLE that starts at 8 a.m. because local live usually means a 1 hour commute beforehand. For the same reason, I do not like live presentations that are only 1 or 2 hours. Live presentations should be at least 3 hours to make them worthwhile. I appreciate video CLE at the lunch hour or first thing in the morning. I also would like CLE during the winter break schedule, which not one bar association or private CLE provider seems to have. I would use that time to visit family in other parts of the country or vacation and take the day or two and get my credits. It's quieter for me during that time so it would be a perfect time to take CLE. I'm licensed in 4 states, all with varying requirements for when my reporting year ends, what needs to be live, what can be on-demand, what can be self-study (only 1 state has self-study), and so forth. I look for CLE that I can use in all 4 states for at least partial credit.
Last year was my best year. This year has been very busy and steady. Based on Q1 and Q2 it will be at least as good. Whether it will be better remains to be seen but based upon current business, I can see a 5-10% increase overall.

I always think of it as advertising for tax purposes. Of course, I do look for business from that sponsorship. However, if it's a charity that means that much to me, getting business from the sponsorship is icing on the cake, so to speak. So if there is little response from my sponsorship I don't sweat it. If I'm asked again I may adjust my sponsorship level accordingly. But that is why it is important to believe in the charity, because your giving is important by and of itself.

Dear Drowning,
As a small business owner, I get resumes from older folks that move to the area and want part time or full time work. One of the biggest issues I have had with the majority of them is that they want the salaries they commanded in "the city". Some of them want a salary that *I* make in my small town. I told one woman that I could pay her $15 an hour and she told me she couldn't accept less than $25 an hour. While her skills and prior work history may have warranted it, this locality does not.
So my advice is simple, make sure that you are not pricing yourself out of the market you are looking for. In addition, because you now have some physical limitations, be realistic concerning what you are in fact capable of doing. If the job requires a fair amount of "hustle" make sure you can hustle. My mom, who is 80, took a job that required a lot of walking and standing. She could do neither. The job loved her and would like her to come back, but she had to be honest and leave because she could not do the job.
I'm not saying this is you per se, just some observations.
Perhaps you can tell us what your skill set is and we can give you some ideas about what may match your skills.
Good luck.

Most important are the personal relationships you create. The best referral business always comes from those people that trust not only your work, but you. So keep networking at public forums, and pick and choose the ones that will benefit you the most, and then have coffee or lunch with those people you want to get to know. This is a time-consuming process but I have found well worth it.
