We run a taxi service in an area where we're not regulated and our service is more expensive because of service, quality of vehicles etc. we provide. We serve wide area and run many deadhead miles and our pricing accounts for that and no matter how much you explain to people who get disgruntled about pricing, about costs associated with running the business, most just don't get it, don't understand and just look at how it hits them. I also understand that. A person sees that it would cost them only $1 in gas to go 3 miles and see that as cost. Uber banks on driver lack of cost understanding to recruit. My advice, if you engage in conversation or your staff, politely say to people, it's not cheap to operate this beast and a buck just doesn't go as far as it used to. Target businesses and fleets for customers. Usually they understand and as long as you provide good service at fair price, it's accepted.

How often do you travel, what city, parking availability and cost. With Uber, there are insurance concerns, scams, and sometimes sketchy drivers. In big cities, cab service is still poor. The only value in having someone drive you, whether cab or TNC's, is that someone is driving you while you can relax or in some cases even get things done so the time is not wasted. Those are intrinsic values that only you can valuate. Will you get rid of your car completely? Probably not, so some of the costs will still be there. Having a car available on a whim is also an important convenience.I think it's a personal preference and not necessarily a matter of convenience.

That would depend on how you buy your vehicles. I buy at auctions and biggest concern is what the extent of problems am I buying. Sometimes you get burned. Ultimately, if you're stressing over purchasing vehicles, you're in the wrong business.  (more) That would depend on how you buy your vehicles. You answered your own question. That's how you present it to customers. "We price our service very aggressively, so that you, Mr./Mrs. Customer never need to question the cost"! Why are you pricing your services that low? Bigger question. Provide a higher value customers are willing to pay for.  (more) You answered your own question. That's how you present it to customers. Uber drivers are summoned by an app. If he's the closest, he'll get the call, if others are available, they will.  People resort to foolish tactics out of desperation. Uber has a horrible retention rate of drivers. Once a drivers receives the bonus, smart ones realize quickly the extra costs, deadhead miles, wait times aren't worth it. Rarely will you run across an uber driver who's been doing it for more than 6month. Find a better source of income.

We always knew they will be more expensive, but quality of their network and in the past, customer service was superior. Now, most networks are pretty close, as long as they use own towers, and customer service is crap for all. Verizon's customer service is now significantly downgraded and all they care about is driving new business instead of retaining even long term customers like I was, 20 plus years. If you have a good trustworthy account rep, maybe it's worth overpaying for the service with Verizon, otherwise no. In some states, it's only Verizon or AT&T. That's a crapshoot, but I'd lean Verizon. If you want misery, you go with latter. If Sprint is in the mix, they're at least significantly less expensive. We just switched to them and thus far, my account rep has been great. He's independent reseller. Biggest advice, find a good rep to deal with inevitable issues. Good luck.
