The two factors: user experience (UX) and design are just as important as the site speed. Of course, many web designers work hard to create a site that doesn't have top notch SEO done, making it hardly functional. Be sure that you have your SEO specialist work hard, dig deep, and come up with a SEO strategy that will deliver results.
We have SEO Blueprint process where we do keyword research, make a plan for implementation, get that approved by client, then implement that on the site. We do this about 4 to 8 times per month for my clients.
