You should have a state of the art website, with a well displayed portfolio, an informative blog, then get out on the street. Don't rely on social networks to find business while you sit on your duff. Meet people, educate them, gently critique their existing website, offer ideas, shake hands,...

Don't make promises you can't keep. It will come back and bite you.

No. But computers have replaced a huge number of job opportunities. Specialization is even more intense than ever. Which is not generally a good thing. These days, doctors have such a narrow perspective on a specific part of the body that they don't know much about the totality of the patient,...

No. But computers have replaced a huge number of job opportunities. Specialization is even more intense than ever. Which is not generally a good thing. These days, doctors have such a narrow perspective on a specific part of the body that they don't know much about the totality of the patient, which leads to misguided diagnosis. Furthermore, the remaining jobs don't pay well because they don't require valuable skills to perform. Humans are fast becoming unnecessary to industry. Yes, we should worry about this. 80 percent of all jobs lost in the USA have been lost due to automation, NOT because of outsourcing. This is why Republican job policy is not going to help the job prospects in any substantial way. They are trying to solve a new modern problem with old irrelevant strategies.
Lawrence. You are assuming that all jobs are the same. They vary wildly. Does the customer have the photography ready? Have they written and verbal copy, or do you have to do that for them? Have they already got a domain name and a crappy hosting company and need to move? Do they need online...

Have they already got a domain name and a crappy hosting company and need to move? Do they need online purchasing? Are they on Google Business and Gmap yet? Should they integrate with their FaceBook business page? You are not just building a website any more. These days, you are helping them market their company on the most important marketing platform remaining...the Internet. You need a lot of expertise...but no bullshit...you have to know marketing and understand how to profile a business plan. You have to find out what they can afford and give them as much as you can for their money.
The only good use of social media I have found is to gather new names and contact info. Its the new phone book. Then I contact them directly with generous and friendly exchanges. Social media sucks for valuable and sincere communication. Its only good for names and sometimes bulk announcements....

The only good use of social media I have found is to gather new names and contact info. Its the new phone book. Then I contact them directly with generous and friendly exchanges. Social media sucks for valuable and sincere communication. Its only good for names and sometimes bulk announcements. Relationships on social media are shallow and misleading. Go out in the real world and make real friends and clients by exposing the real you, volunteering information, pressing the flesh and passing out call cards. Social media can turn you into an introvert, which is bad for business or friends.
