(more) There's no magic dust to sprinkle on your website to make it rank higher. Google is constantly changing their algorithms to ensure natural results. One used to be able to design a website, and there was a little column to the right where you would type in the keywords that you want the site to propagate under. Today, Google no longer uses keywords. Now what they do is assign site prominence. The more prominent your site, the higher likelihood you have that your site will rank. The criteria that the search engines are using to assign prominence is 1. Users IP Address. 2. Data Content (web pages & resources, videos, photos, files, copy), 3. Traffic, 4. Updates 5. Reviews, 6. Domain longevity 7. Ease of use. The more of these things you do, the higher your site will rank. The less you do, the lower. But for these factors to matter, you must first do a few things. One, be sure that you are using a site that is customized for your business and your industry for your specific geographic location. You want to create a separate page for each product or service you wish to be searchable. Name your page titles, descriptions, and pictures as closely related to what you foresee someone searching for. For example, if you name a photo skilodgeaspen.jpg, it can be found when someone searches "Ski Lodge Aspen." These elements on the pages are called that page's metatags, and you want those to vary depending on the different key terms that you are wanting to captivate. There are 100s of companies that offer FREE websites, GoDaddy, Wix, Homestead, 1and1, etc. The lists goes on and on, and almost all offer a free Website Builder. This is because when you use their builder, all of the metatags on the backend of the site are set to default to whomever provided the elements. So as they compete with one another for their own prominence for website development, you become part of their portfolio. You essentially make them bigger and better, but you are not creating an effective online identity for your business. Once you have a custom website with the backend SEO set, then you need to register your business and website with the search engines. There's about 150 of them out there, and it is a manual process to get verified. They all have their own personalities, so some will require creating a username, some verify an email address. Google, Bing and Yahoo all require physical verification. Therefore Google will mail out a pin number to your physical location. You must confirm that number to be a verified business on Google. Once you get ON Google, then you can start to optimize the website. This begins by enhancing your listing on Google. You can add your domain, hours, photos, etc. The more you add, the more prominence Google will give to your site. The headline of a press release is searchable as "News;" however the older the article, the less prominence given. To keep this current, you can add whats called a newsfeed or blog to your website. Each time you update it, the more relevant the site is seen, and the higher prominence given. I hope this helps!

Create a blog on your website, and write interesting articles pertaining to the product or service that you wish to promote. Then create a "teaser" post on your social media, with a link to the blog - and then link the blog to a page on your site that is dedicated to that product or service. For example, if you wanted to promote a water filtration system: First create a page that tells the benefits of your filtration system. Then create a blog page about how dangerous public water can be when consumed unfiltered, and title the blog "Greensburg (example) Water Filtration." In the closing of the blog, say "Click here to get CLEAN water...," taking the user to that product page. Then create a post with a picture of a parasite zoomed in, with a caption that lists all of the bacteria, additives, and such that is found in our public water system. Add a link to the post that says something like, "Click here to see what's in YOUR water!" This will create relative traffic to your website for "Greensburg water filtration." The more traffic generated to the blog, the more prominence is given to the blog page and service page; which in turn will rank your website higher on both the social media platform, as well as the search engines. Boosting posts or doing Facebook ads are both a good way to gain exposure to the post itself. The problem with paid programs is that the activity generated is NOT qualified traffic. In fact, you will probably notice that the majority of it is coming from India or somewhere outside of your service area. This means that you will gain that exposure, however they are not likely to be potential customers, and it will not improve your prominence. It has been my experience that most people use paid options because they do not know how to drive relative traffic naturally. It is the same as people thinking that they need to buy AdWords in order to rank high on Google. Once you understand how it works, then you will find that it works much better than just throwing money at it.

The first step is to be sure that you have a website that is customized for your industry in your geographic area. There are several companies that offer a "free website," however these site-builder sites will never perform very well on search engines. Once you have a website customized for your business, then you would want to register and verify the site on the various search engines. There are virtually 150 search engines out there, depending on the industry. For example, a studio can't register with UrbanSpoon or Angie's List. Keep in mind that about 75% of all searches are made on Google, and that is where I would focus 75% of your efforts. Google requires physical verification. In other words to access your Google search listings, you will need to get a verification code emailed to you. After you verify that code, you will then have access to your Google My Business page where you can enhance your listings by adding hours, photos and such. Once you have completed the design and verification processes, then you can move to optimizing the website. The search engines no longer use "keywords," but rely on the meta-tags and content of the page. If you search for trainers in your area, you can see which companies populate the highest. If you click on their page, and then hit Control and U at the same time; you can access the source code of their website. You can then see how they have their on-page SEO set on their page, and tweak yours accordingly. If you do this every month, you can consistently improve your placement on that search engine. For Google specifically, there are three types of search results. The first are the paid listings, or AdWords. There are two strategies when marketing through AdWords: Brand Awareness & Call To Action. Brand Awareness strategy is buying exposure. You pay for your ad to be seen by the bulk. Each time your ad appears on Google, it costs you based on what you are willing to pay per thousand exposures. Call to Action strategy is a Pay Per Click program; therefore it doesn't cost anything for the exposure, however each new click from Google will charge you based on what you are willing to pay for that lead. Ad placement is determined by the highest bid per click for that given search term, and is only incurred once per IP address. This means that your competitor can't set there and continuously click on your link to cost you more money. The next type of search result is Google Maps. Google Maps is populated strictly by location, and has nothing to do with your website. The listings are populated by relative distance from the user. For example, if you were to search "hamburgers," Google would return the closest McDonald's, then Burger King, then Wendy's, etc. So that it is return business results based on closest proximity. The last type of search results are what's known as "organic results." Organic results are ranked by how the website is setup. No one knows the exact algorithm that the search engines use, however we do understand the criteria used when determining organic search results. The criteria used to determine who comes up in what order are as follows: 1. IP Address 2. Data Content (Page count, photos, videos, etc) 3. Traffic 4. Maintenance/Updates 5. Mobile Compatibility 6. Domain Longevity 7. Reviews & Followers There's no magic secret: the more you cater to this criteria, the higher probability to have of being ranked the highest; and the less you do, the less probability. The last element of the mix is what is known as off-page SEO. The intent of off-page SEO is to enhance the criteria above to increase your ranking. For example, social media is a good way to drive traffic to a particular service page if you want to be searchable for that particular service. And you can create a page for any product or service for which you would like to be found when users are searching online. This is not a hard process, it is just very time-consuming. We have a full staff of people, and it still takes us several months to complete the initial processes; and we have to diligently work on sites to maintain the achieved placement. I know that this is a lot of information, but I think that it is important to understand how it all works. There are a lot of people out there that use terms like "optimization" to get people to pay for nothing. Once you understand how it all works, then you can begin to value how products or services can effectively enhance your online placement. I hope this helps!

(more) there is a lottttt of criteria that Google considers when they populate a list of organic results. ip address, data content, mobile compatibility, page count, links, traffic, domain longevity, keywords, density, to name a few. Think about it. There are like 60 trillion pages out there that google is crawling through every time someone searches for something. If you want to be a viable option- you need to know how people are looking for you, and what info they want to see. Catering to the end user is what made google so successful, and I recommend everyone handle their website with the same goal in mind. the best way to make good use of your site is to make sure it has all of the core elements google looks for, and keep it up to date. You can have a strong presence with a good combination of the things above, but I CAN CERTAINLY CONFIRM through years of experience, that content is king. ( even videos hold a lot of content) Adwords are the only way to guarantee placement. Without them, you have to be on your game to stay at the top of the list as it is every-changing. We have a multitude of websites, and I have learned that in addition to the general rules, each industry in each specific zip code has different competition, and if you want to rank higher, you should be doing what they're doing, plus some. Are their reviews better than yours? Has their site been around longer? Does it get more hits? Research your competition. Compare your website contents to theirs through internetmarketingninja..... but better, and use additional avenues they're not taking advantage of. I imagine its hard for one individual to do this. It takes a team these days now that the internet is so competitive. Which is why companies like ours are so valued. When you pass these tasks to an expert, they can get it done hassle free and in a timely manner.

It's easy if you have a store front or a physical address . https://www.google.com/business/ try to see if you already have an existing google plus page by searching for it, and if you don't see one, you can follow the steps by entering in your basic profile information. however, the step a lot of my clients miss out on is failing to VERIFY their listing once they create it. When you submit your listing, Google will confirm that is in fact your physical address by sending a postcard to the mailing address you list when you're building out the profile. The postcard they send to you has a blue verification code you will need to REENTER into your google listing. It sounds more complicated than it really is. There are over 100 search engines, and each one has its own specific process for listing/claiming/verifying businesses online. It takes us about 4-6 weeks to get through them all, but SO worth it in the end. Hope this helps.
