If this is your main source of income, find some side work. There's quite a few part time jobs out there that you can use to get by. The 2020 Census is hiring 100,000 people this year to work temporarily, right now. Also - use this time to do some supplier training that we never have time for - like Disney, that takes FOREVER! This is also a time to take a step back and evaluate the strategy for how you move your business forward when it comes roaring back. And - have faith that this will happen - because I truly believe it will. Travel companies will be wanting to drive bookings up in the summer and fall, to make up for this - so expect some of the best deals for our customers that we've ever seen! Finally - remember that travel is even somewhat of a recession proof business; the retired baby boomers that have money no matter where the country is economically will begin traveling soon enough again; they just aren't right now because this is different - this is a health scare, so it doesn't matter if you have the money to buy travel or not. As you can imagine, being in the travel and tourism business, we are in the crosshairs right now, and it's very difficult to keep up with the insanity that has developed from the fear of this outbreak. The fear is the real pandemic, and it has already infected all of us - so much, that companies and entities have NO CHOICE but to react, or else look irresponsible. This will pass - in fact, past patterns show that it will be gone by the late spring - but people are preparing like they would be for nuclear war right now. I pray that everyone can take a few minutes to think rationally, have a plan for how to behave to avoid the NORMAL flu and cold viruses that are a lot more prevalent out there, and just take care of their family. But - if you have a vacation planned for the summertime, don't panic - you're going to be fine. This is not the Black Plague. Cheers, David

These organizations are absolutely vital to the success of the travel industry today, because they advocate for the preservation of the indirect sales distribution ecosystem that keeps the industry balanced and honest. Without this ecosystem, the resulting direct sales distribution system would eliminate OTA's, third-party brokers, not to mention travel advisors, who in turn advocate for consumers' best interests as their clients. This would fundamentally allow for suppliers to increase prices collusively, and eventually, eliminate the variety of options we enjoy today in the travel landscape. In my opinion, organizations like CLIA and ASTA earn their salt every day they are advocating for us.

Although it's probably a little uncouth to listen to other's conversations in restrooms, especially in the stalls (ESPECIALLY IN THE MEN'S ROOM!)...I once got a client because a guy next to me in the stall was complaining to his wife that they hadn't planned their summer vacation yet and he thought that the airfare would be too much money. After we both got done with "business", and were done washing our hands - important - I introduced myself and told him I could help him save money on airfare and get him the vacation they wanted. He took me up on my offer, and we had his trip booked the next week!
