Referral business doesn't come from fishing, but rather farming. You plant seeds here and there, nurture the growth, and cultivate when it is time to harvest.
Join a local business networking and referral group. Share your value to give/refer business to those you are networking with. Become a person of value and trust. It all comes back around to you.
Just be honest and transparent. If you're good at what you do, those 3 ingredients make the cake!

For a personal service business like mine the best way to generate referrals is through one on one meetings and educational (not sales) presentations.
