Yes it does work. And you can do it on your own, but it takes time. Many of my clients have asked me this question during our planning process. Obtain your annual free credit report from Equifax, not Credit Karma as they do not really post everything for you and you do need detail. Call the companies, settle, pay them off, or dispute what is not yours, again it takes time. You should begin to see improvements after the first 30 days and each few weeks after that. I would not pay someone to do this for me, it is easily done over time. If you are in too deep due to many unforseen circumstances, and you need to consolidate your credit balances to make your life affordable, research a good consolidator as there are a LOT of scams and rip off artists out there, and learn your spending lesson. I hope this helps.
You can make arrangements yourself with creditors to fix your credit problems. Never pay a credit repair service to do it for you. It will cost you more. Do it yourself and save money. If you aren't sure how to do it ask Credit Counseling for advise.
Yes,and I agree with Jim M. - you can do it yourself:
Pay down your credit cards. Applying for a new account can ding your score. So, too, can transferring balances from a high-limit card to a lower limit one, or concentrating all or most of your credit-card balances onto a single card. In general, it's better to have smaller balances on a few cards than a big balance on one.
Hi Maxine, yes it does. There are several pieces of legislation under the consumer protection act that assures a "life event" does not become a "life sentence". A precise but doable process exists to remove those negatives that fall in one or more of five categories. Even though a derogatory may be obsolete and no longer effecting someone's credit SCORE, it is still on their credit REPORT and can effect everything from their insurance rates, to their ability to purchase a home and/or secure employment unless they are removed. That is what we facilitate.
