For us, the internet has made it easier to connect us to clients everywhere, even across the country. It’s bern the best place to publicly declare our Satisfaction Guarantees, 2 Year limited work Guarantees. We have a great web presence! From our how-to videos on YouTube.com/all-teriorpainting to our website www.allteriorpainting.com with our best photo gallery, to Facebook public profile page of some of our more recent projects. To our great reviews on google and angieslist.
its a double-edged sword. It has hurt in that more people are using things like Google and YouTube to figure out how to do minor things themselves... typically wrong (even 2 decades later, people havent figured out that not everything on the internet is true or accurate). It has also hurt because people use the internet to "diagnose" a problem before bringing their car in, so they have either an unrealistic expectation or a flat wrong diagnosis (see my above statement).
It has helped by allowing legitimate shops to post articles and blogs online to try and dispel the wrong information, and to advertise specials, tips, discounts, etc.
Online reviews are another aspect that seems to be coming into its own. For a long time all you could find about a business was negatives and bad reviews. With more and more people of every generation going online first, rating and review sites have figured out how to weed through the negative and fake reviews. More people are starting to see the benefit of posting about a business online when they have a positive experience rather than just when they have a negative. But that also comes with a downside: Almost all businesses now live and die by their online reviews. One bad review (deserved or not) can mean thousands of $$ in lost sales.
The Internet helps us immensely. It allows us 24/7 exposure. And, has brought us attention half way around the world. The challenge is to keep in mind what your audience is looking for. It is a stage and advertising and information platform. Who are you talking to?
The immense challenge is it allows frauds, cheats and dangerous elements to parade as you or your company or simillar companies or try to simply attack your business.
Here to is where we all must communicate and demand some degree of higher safety and security.
Mostly it is an amazing medium.

Without a doubt it has done harm, without paying sales tax it has put us at a 7% disadvantage right from the start. I know consumers should pay sales tax but how often does it happen. I'm amazed that the states don't enforce this and go after these companies and hold them responsible for the taxes. Another way it has hurt us is consumers purchasing so many products off the internet has hurt retail businesses abroad (Toys R Us) for instance. We've remodeled over 50 in the past, now with their sales down we haven't done a remodel in a few years. It goes right down the line, many of these online companies have no overhead, how can you compete with that, local jobs are lost, construction of new projects are gone, tax revenue for the states are lost. Thank you, this is a great question.
As a psychotherapist and teacher of leadership and team building, I have found the internet a great way to educate the public about self care, leadership and the trait of high sensitivity. We do need to exercise caution about engaging in counseling conversations over online venues since our ability to intervene in the case of crisis is so limited.
I'm a graphic designer who was working in print back in the 90s when I started building web pages. So, obviously, it's helped my business since I now do a lot of Internet related work. But whether or not it's helped your business, it's not going away. The Internet includes email, social media, websites, and networking sites like alignable. Any business that is able to leverage these tools to compete better will benefit from the Internet. It takes either a time investment or a money investment (or some of both), but it's available to everyone. Learn how to use the tools properly and you can benefit too.
Definitely has helped us spread the word on our holistic philosophy, make new friends and also helps us provide additional research information to our patrons...
Helped in most ways for the transfer of information & graphics, but hurt us with the advent of downloadable music. Physical product (CDs & DVDs) has been our bread & butter for 23 years and with the core of our business being the music industry we've really had to diversify the past 8-9 years.

I believe it’s helpful as a show case of what you have to offer, but ultimately it’s customer referrals that motivate people to try you out
