Considering the internet is helping us with our online store, the competition is rough. Not to mention the DIY people with youtube. We've seen a steady climb of people trying to repair items themselves and failing, we usually end up with a more difficult repair then necessary. So the internet hurts and makes it harder for other competitors. We have the price matchers too that go on Amazon. I think it's a little rude to come to a store and milk the store for information then go online and buy everything. So to be honest it's a mix bag.
Overall is has helped my insurance practice become more visible and made communications with our business partners much more efficient. The internet is a vital tool for communication & market research and when used properly can be a valuable asset. Using web sites, social media, email, texting or any other technology requires an understanding and consistent effort however.
For functional medicine the internet is a huge help. My customers use the internet to research their health concerns. They find me listed in a database of trained functional medicine physicians. They look at my reviews and my facebook page. They most frequently site internet research as the way they decide to make an appointment.
The Internet has allowed patients to compare the training and credentials of the chiropractors in our local area. I have my CV posted on my website that is about 12 pages long of specialty training. Most chiropractors have not even put together a CV. A patient with an health issue should seek out a chiropractor who has specialty training in their area of need.
Not only helped our industry, it has revolutionized it. The internet has changed the way we watch TV and movies, listen to music, store photos and communicate with our family and friends. It also allows us to remotely connect and manage our home from anywhere in the world. Building robust home networks to accommodate high speed internet over wired and wireless is no longer a luxury in the home, it is an essential part of the building process.
Since my area of expertise is Search Engine Optimization and Online Marketing, it has obviously benefited me as far as providing me with a career that I love. At the same time, the ease of which you can quickly put together a "business" and make yourself "look" professional has allowed several con artists posing as SEO experts to stain the reputation of the industry as a whole.
Both. While online shopping has brought us greater recognition, people only see price. If they see "store A" selling a chair for $99, they wonder why we might sell a similar chair for twice the price without realizing that many of the "big box" office stores are selling lower grade items. We sell commercial grade which will last years, and provide the service and reliability is not so common.
The internet has most definitely helped our business. The majority of our sales are from our web site, eBay listings, and listing on other sites as well. In the past we used to mail out flyers which was costly and half the time ended up in someone's trash. It also took longer to get the word out about new inventory available. With the internet we can update our site on a daily basis to keep our customers informed on what we have available as our inventory constantly changes. With that being said, be on the look out for some changes to our site, www.jlmercer.com, and new items coming in shortly.

It has definitely helped my industry (real estate). It has given consumers the ability to learn about topics of interest and perform many of their own upfront home searches. For agents, it has afforded us the ability to receive more brand awareness and reach a wider audience.
