Does it pay off to join a local Chamber Of Commerce?
As you already know, the main purpose of any local chamber of commerce, is to protect and promote the local business community, with its primary goal of helping business owners expand their network.
So, before you consider spending that discretionary income on buying 100 lottery tickets, or tossing them on a club party, consider using that money to join a local chamber of commerce near you.
I/we’ve joined the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber (SSPC) and, IT WAS A GREAT DECISION. However, I would like to have your take, in terms of what was your personal experience in joining a local chamber …
Why I am asking/suggesting this (especially if you’re a small business)? Well, there are quite a few reasons, some of which I will mention below:
- You’re provided with multiple networking opportunities, which could generate new connections,
- While exchanging ideas, referrals, and recommendations, you’ll foster & boost your credentials,
- It will increase your exposure and relevancy, especially if you’re looking for a B2B environment,
- As a member, you will get discounts on everything from office supplies, to continuing education,
- You may get certain email lists, as well as first dibs on booths at trade shows and other events.
*Certainly, there are many other benefits than the ones mentioned above, but I just mentioned a few …
** If you are willing to invest some of your money into the stock of ”Opportunity,” rather than that of “Security” then, … joining a Chamber of Commerce is definitely worth your money and time invested …
*** According to a study conducted by the Schapiro Group, 49% of consumers were more likely to think favorably of a local business, if it was a member of the local Chamber, and 80% were more likely to purchase a product or service from a Chamber member.

I believe it makes great sense. You will get out of it what you put into it. If you are involved, you will grow relationships that will turn to client relationships. If you are not involved and not going to meetings or networking meetings, it is only for show in your literature and on your website and will have minimal impact.
Dan, as a service business without a brick and mortar location in a specific community I have had mixed results at multiple chambers.
Chambers definitely offer multiple opportunities to meet some great local businesses, expand your professional network and learn from more seasoned business owners but in my experience, they are more focused on helping and promoting businesses with physical locations. Events are designed to draw shoppers into community to the benefit of those brick and mortars while offering the services businesses only the privilege of sponsoring the events. The same with celebrations of grand opening, other businesses milestones and even the networking events themselves
What I’ve observed at the networking events is that they are dominated by other service businesses with little participation from the restaurants, retails and other brick and mortar businesses, other than the hosting location, that the service businesses are hoping to connect because the bricks and mortars are rightfully running their businesses during the events. Therefore, it allow the services business to form strong relationships but they are still left out of being able to build the same level of relationship with the bricks and mortars.
Despite my personal experience, I am a supporter of Chambers of Commerce because I believe they are good for local communities. However, service businesses need to go in with eyes wide open and realistic expectations about what the chamber will be able to do for them.
As a marketing person here is my take on why the chamber is a fantastic digital marketing investment. Lets say the membership is $250 and with that you get a trusted business profile and get featured on the chambers site and social media. Here is where the big pay off is .... do a ribbon cutting using the digitalift trust and credibility system. Each ribbon cutting has city, county, state officals, leaders from the chambers and your personal advocates. Your marketing objectives are to get, recommendations, pictures , video testimonials, social media and REVIEWS!!!. With the Digitalift system 5-10 reviews are expected and that alone will improve all of your online marketing efforts for years to come.
Historically, I have ALWAYS been active in a chamber and/or related association throughout my career and have formed deep and lasting relationships as a result. I have enjoyed experiences that I would have never had otherwise. Without hesitation, I vote YES! As with most things in life, though, you get out what you put in. I have served as Ambassador, been involved, attended trade shows and presentations, and helped others to meet key people. Good luck!
I would look at any organization thinking to 2 aspects:
1. How much can I contribute and serve my purpose?
2. Return on investment of subscription and extra costs in terms of time dedicated to the activities.
networking and organization have to be evaluated on the overall portfolio you are looking for.
Are you part of any other organization?
Thank you
Katia
Chamber membership is the best way to grow your business, and I am the perfect person to contact.
Only if you pay off the local Chamber of Commerce.
Hope this helps!
