How do you position yourself as a worthwhile business in a world where many people want to look it up on the internet and try to do it themselves?

Get your most satisfied customers to tell the world how you wow'ed them. It is not very easy to get the right customer words. Customers do it best. When your best customers leave emotional reviews that speak to their peers, you will begin to get those customers who are DIY'ers. Also as Trenton said below, leaving helpful information on your blogs and Youtube channels like how to do what they are trying to do, ensuring that you give them that technical detail that somewhat highlights why they can not do it themselves, you will notice good customer conversion from those your most motivated clients, those that have the need.

We as Designers offer a service. It’s our service that brings the overall design together for our clients. Those who value what we do are our best potential clients. There will always be those who want to pick your brain and think they can do as good or better a job on their own. Let them.

I like working with homeowners that are willing to put in the Sweat effort it allows them to take part in the pride of the completed project and even step it up with the added value of there efforts. I am alway’s willing to give people the best of my knowledge client or not

Those that wish to do it themselves are not my customer. I’ll lend them advice and let them know that I am available once they find themselves drowning in the problems of their choice. But typically I’m going after the client who is looking to pay for service and can see value in what I offer

I am currently looking to refer a local landscaping company in the St Louis Area. Any one interested?

Education, Experience, Professionalism

Many of our customers have done the DIY route and found less than desired results. We offer results and warranties most people cannot get on thier own. With 40 years and weekly education of all employees I provide a valuable service 2nd to none.

You have to show the customer the value. That may include everything from saving them time, having the proper equipment to giving them the education on soil types and plantings.

I always present value of time, knowledge of products and the expertise of maintaining a system. People are busy any only getting busier, we focus on how much is their time worth and how much value they get out of what they do (work, family, activities) has always help us with the sales part of it

Search all you want, Price is only an issue in the absence of value. And you will always get what you pay for.

For example, there are 3 types of hotels. The Ritz, the Marriott, and the Super 8. All of them will give you a room for the night but it's the experience you have while you are there is what separates the difference in the cost/benefit. If it's significantly cheaper then trust, there is a reason for it.

Or you can tell them that when ordering or requesting any product or service they will always have 3 options to choose from. Cheap, fast, or good? But you can only pick two. If it's fast and cheap, it won't be good. If it's cheap and good, it won't be fast. And If it's fast and good, it won't be cheap. But remember, you can only pick two.

All the Best!

I took a request from a Bride to show her how to make Bows for her wedding. After several attempts she finally said " I hate this can you just make 10 of these for my wedding". Many people will try to do things they have no knowledge of and some may succeed but there will always be plenty of people who are happier having someone do it that already has the skills.
