We have been closed for three weeks and as a small business, it is devastating. We have put off major renovation we had planned, and will do some minor painting and repair ourselves and work in our garden. I miss our guests terribly! We are taking this opportunity to catch up on marketing, systems, copywriting and trying new recipes.
Our little inn, The Manta Ray Inn, on the south part of Hollywood Beach ocean front has been closed now for several weeks and we will be closed down until at least April 30. It is sad to have to tell great workers to go home. So to let you know we have had no income in three weeks. We do try to help our employees as best we can in these crazy times.
We had to close our doors at Deer Lake Lodge. People are on lock down and not traveling- so all guests canceled their reservations. It’s big blow- but we will survive. Now our biggest expense is property taxes, that seriously might be what puts us under.
The Grand Hall is still taking reservations for events later in the year. We will do about one showing a week and keep safe distance and cleaning protocol. Real estate agents still can show houses so we look at it from that perspective. The Grand Hall has affordable pricing so we can accommodate lower budgets.
We have no bookings coming in for our summer season and most of the bookings we have will have to cancel as they are coming from overseas. Very sad state of affairs for so many hotels. Our friends in the hospitality industry are experiencing the same issues. There really isn't anything we can do to change the situation - it will just take time.
We are extremely effected by the coronavirus. Our Inn is seasonal and was due to open April first. Because of the Sate Of Indiana Govenor's Mandatory closures we will be closed until the order is lifted. This is our main source of income. We will not open because we want to be safe and preventable but it is at a great cost. All our April and May bookings have cancelled. Taxes, insurances, and utilities will be due and our last recources have been consumed. We have applied for a grant to help small businesses..hopefully we will qualify.
We're located in a high valley in the Allegheny Mountains (450 acre farm). Second week in March out all cancelled (and we were full because of ski season which went down the drain) ... However, we have several people who "escaped" here and are totally self-contained (room, bathroom, entry to outside, open fields to walk in, small fridge, water pot, cooking pot, lots of toilet paper, etc.) ... they brought own food and we have a small delivery food place ... two staying here are excellent. Seven colleagues\partners living here as well, all self-contained. Went thru self-quarantine 15 days. Such challenging times ...
We are still open but occupancy is really low... we are taking precautions to protect all guests and employees at all times...we are fairly close to a hospital and have opened rates for the national guard and other emergency agencies. We have a skeleton staff but other staff will come in if needed. We have shut off 2 floors of all electricity and unplugged microwaves and fridges...hang in' in there!!! WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER!!
We are closed until at least may 3 per county & state. Just finished cancelling reservations for April. Hoping to be allowed to re-open in June (based on models - may 3 seems optimistic). We draw most of our guests from the San Francisco Bay area and still have strong reservations for the summer... just need to be able to re-0pen. Working on plans to have a little social distancing in place once we do re-open (registration, breakfast, smoking area, etc)
Fortunately, we have a bit of a rainy day fund and we've always paid ourselves as employees so have applied for unemployment and that will help. Am working to reduce our fixed costs. Just put trash collection on hold ( we can drive to the dump as needed). Looking at other ways to save. Had been in the process of re-financing our loan and need to pick that back up as it would reduce our interest payments.
At the same time - it's a good time to do improvements - no guests to disturb. So we're replacing a deck (handy husband) and I'll be sewing some new curtains for our cabins.
Although there might be some opportunities to house health care workers - we're about a 20 - 30 min drive from hospitals and I think we're too far of a drive. Plus we are more in the mood to be isolated...
Staff are furloughed and have all applied for unemployment. Looking at putting in a veggie garden for summer produce. Learning a lot about letting go of a need to be 'in control' <ha>!!
Hello,
We are still remodeling our bathrooms and pool since we are not getting the occupancy that we should. We have promotions for wedding blocks, construction workers, healthcare and anyone who would need to get away. It's difficult right now with a lot of our hotels closing, employees laid off, friends furloughed but we are trying our best to keep the doors open and get the employees back to work.If you know of anyone who would need to get away for a night or an overworked healthcare worker, please think of us. We are here for the community.
I am out of business - again. I had to return all payments in full for weekly stays at my luxury villa from March and onward when the British Virgin Islands closed their border to any incoming or outgoing visitors once they had their first COVID-19 case. Every booking for 2020 is canceled. I have furloughed three employees, but I have two employees I still pay part time to maintain my luxury villa, plus overhead expenses of pool, landscaping, maintenance, etc. In the Caribbean, you have to maintain your property, and hurricane season starts in 60 days. We completely rebuilt in 2018 after Hurricane Irma and were finally back in business. I think it will be a long time before guests can afford to travel again to my luxury villa. I’m paying my overhead with a bank line of credit left over from the hurricane. I doubt if I’m eligible for any of the relief programs because my business is out of the country, even though I’ve filed a U.S. business tax return for 20 years. Good luck to everyone in the hospitality business. We will get through this!
