Valid Question Juliana,

There are several models of mentoring, which I'm sure your well aware of, and I won't waste anyone's time going over them. What I will do is share a little something to avoid as well as something that has been very useful in our business and remains the best method.

First things first... avoid making a cookie cutter system for all potential clients you meet. Every person you meet will absorb your mentorship differently. So, the best method to begin with is...

1) Understand what style/model works best for each individual.

2) Recognize where your potential clients are at mentally, not going into NLP mode and keeping to that genuine interest to understand the full scope of their problem in order to really make a mentoring session extremely valuable to them.

3) Prepare by making a solid "case for change" so that you will be able to guide them through your ultimate why

These three steps have really helped us come to a point where we provide a powerful moment of mentoring to get a solution based result and go beyond what our dream client's hopes or expectations have ever been.

Hope this helps,

Mike

That certainly is a tough question to answer. In today's markets we have our sights set on instant success, but with many moving targets. It comes down to a teach-ability index and a willingness to change or learn. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear!

We would first understand their goals/objectives for their business and then do a business assessment where we help determine the business's digital marketining/social media presence, where the business is spending their money/operations costs to run their business and then offer some options.   The key is listening to them and using resources in my network to help them.

I offer a complimentary discovery session to new prospects. This is normally 1+ hours and allows both parties to evaluate the other before engaging in a longer term relationship.

Prospects always get advice that will help them in their business immediately. I do not worry about giving it away, as I only want long term clients who see the value I provide.

Make it your mission to build your credibility. Press Releases and Marketing alliances. Write a book about a subsection of your specialty you know people would love to know!!! (And collect their emails).

First I would tailor your offerings so that however you present or provide the mentoring to your client(s) would be specific to your business. Then the only place they can actually implement what you are providing is through your services. It is fine to offer your services to a client - but your time is all you have to sell if you are providing consultative services - don't give your time away unless you feel the client or potential client is worthy of your efforts and time spent.

Our coaching style is holistic business coaching, let me explain: We work on Leadership, Team Building, Culture, Operation, Systems, Sales, Marketing, Advertising and Work/Life Balance.

I offer a complimentary session which serves 2 purposes. (1) To assess their needs and willingness to be mentored or advised/ coached. Do you want them as a client (2) it allows them to assess you and for both of you to see if you can collaborate.
