I think it all depends on what type of business you work at. With working in the legal field, it is more common to see professional head shots as profile pictures for that. You don't necessarily need to pay someone to take it, iphones have a decent enough quality image when used in the right settings or even just a point and shoot camera (this is probably the type you own). So, as long as you have good lighting (outside, late afternoon, with the sun not in your eyes). Have a plain background, like against a white wall and make sure the angle of the photo is flattering to you, you should be fine. I suggest turning slightly to the side as front facing images aren't always the best.If you google image search 'professional head shots' you will see what I mean. I would say that asking someone that is in the younger generation to help you take the picture would be a good idea. They usually have a good idea when it comes to taking pictures and the lighting.
I have been modeling and doing photography for a number of years (outside of the escape room business I currently work at/own) So I have an understanding of the process and what goes into it.

Either way, but I took my profile photo myself with an iPhone....so I would say try to take it yourself and see how it comes out.

If you can take one that looks nice with your own camera or phone camera that should work. It isn’t that large. But you definitely need a photo!
