Would you rather read an article that inspires or educates you?

Are you more likely to read an article or blog that inspires and educates you, or an article that entertains you and makes you laugh? Can an article do both?

The answer to this would depend on the day, my mood that day, and the topic.

I'm always reading pieces that educate me on topics I want to know more about, but I'm also eager to run across pieces that inspire me. Sometimes I even go after pieces that inspire me, if I'm in a particularly "spiritual" or "seeking" frame of mind.

Both. My husband entertains me every morning with the comic strips online. I enjoy stories and articles that take me to a good place inside that inspire me especially when am having a challenging day.

Personally, I like an article that educates me and details some information I was not aware of or new changes or related to that topic. In all cases, articles have to be readable and those who put me to sleep are ones I tend to not completely read. An article that captures my attention while also providing that difference in delivery-a laugh or something to ponder or a brightness to the day-is one way to keep me reading and coming back for more. Just a thought.

An article can absolutely do both; it's in the tone of the writing and the craft of the writer. My preference is for an article to do both. I want to learn about a thing and be inspired to do something with what I've just learned. On top of that, I also want a certain level of entertainment.  The blogs, publications, writers I subscribe to do all of the above. When I write something, I want someone to be engaged, learn something, and feel empowered.

I look for both inspiration and learning when I'm reading. I think a great writer can make their readers laugh while inspiring or educating as well. Words can be so much more than letters thrown together.

However, I only read one if it is very well written. Too many errors, though the message might be good, turns me away.

I am a morning scanner.  This ability to overview many different sources comes from m training at the Los Angeles Times.  We had 4 major sources on our desk each morning.  The Kiplinger Report, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and the London Times. We would see what was related and then see what we had in our feed and who was assigned to follow up.  I am more of a person who gains experience from hands on. I was just sent several business books about writing copy and "the funnel".  What I find is that I am mostly doing alot of this already and to stop and read about it takes times.  I scan things, of course I am lucky to read so quickly overall and see the relationship in what is before me.  To do tedious reading is not my focus.

Great question and one I've never heard before.

Personally, I do enjoy both, however; I'd prefer to read one that inspires me. I feel it's rare to come upon something that's inspiring enough to have an impact. We all need that in our lives.
