Rebecca, you make a good point that open rates do vary by industry, and non-profits tend to have a higher open rate. Here's Constant Contact's breakdown of open, click-through, and bounce rate by industry: http://support2.constantcontact.com/articles/FAQ/2...
We are an advocacy organization for small businesses in Tampa Bay, FL, and our open rate to emails sent to our members is pretty high -- typically 65 percent. Ones that are more specific (for example, emails to only our restaurant members, for offer tailored for them), open rate is about 80 percent.
My issue is that Gmail treats all Constant Contact email as spam since the emails are not originated from their server. Do others also experience this issue?
I average 28% to 38% open rate, with a 6% to 8% click through rate with my newsletter.
The open rate is determined by so many factors. I guess that is why you are seeing such wide variances in the % of opens. Some people have very fresh, targeted lists. Others have older lists, that are not targeted. Some people are mailing things their users actually want to engage with, while others are mailing anything they can to get clicks. I'm not sure what value this poll has only asking what the open rates are.
Our open rate usually falls somewhere between 18-37%. It remains to be an effective way to reach certain markets, such as those who use email but social media, etc.
We run a system built in to our website called SendPress. For us it's more a question of the quality of our emails than it is what system we use. We carefully craft what content we send out so it is something our subscribers are excited to see in their inbox. Our open rate is above 30%.
Our is 67%
I started with Constant Contact and switched to Mailchimp after a couple years. Now, after 5 years with Mailchimp I am moving all my email marketing to Infusionsoft so I have a lot more control with not only email blasts, but autoresponders to those that show interest. Many more nurturing possibilities. I just started last month, and though the learning curve is steep, I have had record numbers of responses already after just one trade-show event.
Hi, Ben,
What do you see as meaningful metrics? Not a criticism; just curious because I'm trying to maximize all my forms of communicating with my customers, and would like to know what is the best way to judge effectiveness of emails?
Thanks,
Barbara Harrison
