When starting out, do you only take the jobs that you will make the most money on or do you take any job just to get your name out there?

The temptation when starting a business, is to take all jobs that come your way, sometimes at a discounted price. It is very difficult to reestablish your business once you have this reputation and history with clients.

Any job.  Create a min/max of profit loss allowable and or drive range for deliveries.

This is a complex question.  I Learned many years ago of a theory called Time Management and it has and still serve me well.

In principle it says time is money, time is limited and if you desire to reap the very most benefits of your time, use it wisely.

I can go through whole life Helter Skelter, Flying By The Seat Of My Pants or I can spend the needed time it takes, to plan out Whom I need to contact, What I need to do and say, What objectives do I wish to Accomplish.

Yes exposure is important, What good do you achieve even if you are the very best in your field of expertise, offing the best services or products, a a great value to your customers yet no one knows you exist ?

A minute has only 60 seconds, a hour only 60 minutes, a day only 24 hours, a week only 7 days, we’ll you Get It!  You only have a finite amount of time! Use it or loose it .

Your must target an industry, I. D. your highest Valued Customers,  that you can find, research their profile, compare their history back to the your best to better customers |  to potential customer.

Sell at a true respectful & Honest profit, never sell cheap, you look bad , under perform and are helping your competition put you out of business !

Don’t be afraid to seek out help & guidance, team up with other business who seek out the same type of customers you seek but who do not directly compete with you!

You take any job you can get that you can perform well. If you accept so many jobs that you have to compromise quality, timeliness, consistency, etc., you’ve taken on too much. Balance, or lack thereof, will make or break you.

I assume you are coming from the angle of a start up buiness.

It depends on how much capital you have.Getting your name out in the market is important and there are a variety of ways ( social/email blasts, mail -geo targeted campaigns)to do that without spending a bunch of money. On the other hand taking on a job even though you will lose money provides a sampling opportunity of your services.Depending on the quality of that job or event ; it could create a viral effect for you and your business through name recognition.

I take any job to get my name out there defiantly!! As your name gets more well known and your reputation is good you will get the larger more lucrative.

We took every order possible while building our brand. Now, due to the volume of custom orders, it's impossible to produce every request.

You always take jobs to get your name out there.  A small job can always lead to a much larger job, provided you have a great product and service.

I would take any job as long as it’s profitable

I wouldn't say ANY job, but most of them.  It isn't uncommon for a startup to take just about whatever comes their way, particularly if you are located in a rural area.  Once you become established and the calendar begins to fill up you can be more choosy.  Our particular business would not have had near the success we enjoy without initially accepting lesser paying jobs and doing our absolute best at them.  The great reviews we got in our small town paid off and we are now able to charge what we are worth.
