Do you think print advertising is dead?

Who is telling you that?

Print won't be dead because even so called "Digital Media" stars use it.

Just got an Amazon (!) catalog and something from Google- in the mail!

Print isn't dead, per se, it's just another tool to reach a certain demo. It's a demo that is getting older and some (not all) of those folks are changing with the times. An example... my 77 year old Mom faithfully bought the newspaper until about 5 years ago. She'd glance over the news, skim through the obits to make sure she hadn't lost a friend or old classmate and work a puzzle.  But now, she gets her news blurbs on social media, where she checks in with her friends to see how all are doing and plays "Words with Friends".  She does the same things, but the format is changing.  Same with TV... I have 4 grown children and NONE of them have cable TV. They all use the net for their TV viewing, so traditional TV ads are not hitting many millennials.  So advertising takes a bit more planning these days.  Know your target demos, research how to grow your share in other demos and have a great offer or service. Since I'm in radio, with 6 stations, we still hit up to 95.2% of the total market in our listening area. My stations are "tools" and each tool does a particular job... and with a good offer, great service and a creative spot with excellent production, we've been able to grow business for our clients.

All media faces changes and all have a value. You just have to do your homework, provide excellent service of products and a good rep will help you achieve your goals

Amazon spends 64 million annually on print! It’s print dead? No way! Print drives web!

If you had a form of printed media that a) doesn't pile up on your porch or clutter your mailbox, and that b) people actually look for, pick up on their own, and enjoy reading... would you believe that print is dead?  If you could put your ad into something that people pick up on purpose when they're in a good mood, would you place an ad in that publication?

I know of such a publication. :-)

I most definitely think newspaper advertising is dead except for Black Friday.  The circulation is so far down in our area it's crazy.  As for the junk mail in my mailbox, it goes straight in the trash and I don't even look at it so I hate it for all of those advertisers that have wasted their money.

No matter what digital has done to traditional advertising, print should always stay around. Regardless of how people communicate, they always want something tangible in hand. They won't leave their cell phone in place of a coupon, and some people still want their paper receipts, which can also serve as a print ad platform. While subscriptions have dwindled over the years, magazines and some major newspapers are still surviving. I think print will be around for quite some time yet.

No. If you know what print piece will deliver your target audience and you have a worthwhile CTA without an ad that is too texty it still works. Challenge your print rep to bring out ideas that will help you convert their readers into your customers. Most print reps are only selling real estate in their publication. 1 in 10 can give you an idea.

You get those 3 things you're good.

From the date on your post, Debra, your mailbox was clearly filled within the new, much, much longer holiday shopping season.  They were showing Christmas displays alongside Halloween merchandise at the end of October.  What used to begin following Thanksgiving, now stretches back way beyond where it should.  Those catalogs hit - not once before Christmas and the other Nov-Dec holidays - but three, four or more times.  Same catalogs, different covers.  Our paper recycling jumps to much higher levels at the end of each year.

But, printed and direct mail pieces can be great for advertising.  You just need to be strategic about what and when you send those mailings - and who you send them to.  You need to target your ideal audience with offers that meet their wants and needs.  Don't get lost in piles of holiday/special events mail that people won't even read.  Do some research create a few customer/buyer personas, then mail away your well thought out printed pieces.  And, be sure to present that same offer online as well.

Print is not dead. Of less significance perhaps, but not dead. Newspapers report robust flyer circulation. Ad space is down. Use a print ad when being specific with a target audience. Perhaps in conjunction with other forms of advertising. Not everybody is on Facebook and Instagram. And for me, those ads are every bit as easy to ignore. that is a given
