I have had time to figure out how much of the art I create is me and how much is what I think "me" should be; hence, my direction is starting to change. All this time has helped me to understand which projects are exciting and which are joyless. An artist has to be enthusiastic about what they are doing if it is to have life. And so my bucket has been emptied of the desire to please others and filled with the desire to please me.
I am doing just what I have been doing all along....going to my studio to paint, working in my garden, living a simple and meditative life. The big difference around me is that everything seems more slow paced, people are friendlier and more helpful and more sane. Unfortunately the income has dropped dramatically due to many cancellations, but I am shifting to giving online classes and working my online presence.....something that I had been dreading but needed to be done anyways. Hope you are all staying healthy!
I've been a professional actor for 30 years and counting. Theater, tv, film, anything to make that living. As Corona shut down all of these work opportunities, I decided to push in on music as an alternative late career shift. I've played in bands since I was a youngster, and I've had my own band in NYC for 20 years, playing music that I'd written. I've even had a couple of songs recorded and released by other artists. But I've never looked to make real money from music. So, how do I do that, I asked myself? While doing research on the internet I came across a free 5-day workshop on writing music for sync (Meaning music used in broadcast media ie: commercials, tv, and film) And from that workshop I had the amazing good fortune to win a full scholarship to their music for sync writing and producing course. This 6-month program has saved my life. I now understand how to write, produce, collaborate remotely, and sell music to commercials, tv, shows, and filmmakers for their uses. I can do it from my home studio, and stay safe and busy. I feel very fortunate.
I would like to pool together .Arts , music , writing , poetry , meditation. All communication , that can help us all move forward , heal , use different means to relate. I think we need to think outside the box , tie box , tie together different elements to not only help our businesses, but remind the arts aren't confined . Poetry doesn't have to only be in a library . I often do reads during the day with people I come across after a brief intro .Mine tend to have holistic , artsy mindsets. Just some thoughts . Feel free to reach out .
Yes, things have changed. They have slowed down for me a great deal. With the permanent closing of 2 galleries that represented my work, I do feel calmer. I am no longer under the constant demand to create work. Even though I'm sad to see the galleries shut down and I feel for the owners and the other artist that they represented, I have noticed that (for myself) I'm starting to feel revitalized artistically. I will never leave the art world, but I do feel like a phoenix that is going to rise up from the ashes and become something new.
I am 75 years old. Have been working with sculpting metal all of my life.
Even after this down time (i usually do about 30 to 40 Fine Art and craft shows each year well over 1000 shows all over the Country. i still cannot wait for a Client to see my Art and gasp or almost loose heir breath when
they see what i have created for them. My bucket list is to wake every day

I am finding that I want to change direction. I have struggled for some time with doing high quality work ,or just what sells fast. The market I’ve been in tends toward just getting done and turning cash. Now I want to use this time to redirect, and go full quality, and dump old markets. I hate dumbing my work down for quick profit. Excited to do amazing new things.
