I usually don't meet prospects at business networking events, but what I do that sometimes pays off is to look for businesses who have clientele who may benefit from my services and then I sell my capabilities and differentiate myself to that business and try to partner with them if I am sure I can add value. This takes a bit of pavement pounding to say the least. Its good practice to refine my pitch, as I usually don't have one prepared. Remember, I am a "propeller head" not a salesman by trade!
