There are several moving parts to this question. First, interns will work if you are in their specific field but their time will be limited. It really depends on how quickly you need the new employee. There are other resources out there can be effective as well. Staffing agencies have people they can place on a temporary basis to either fill a very specific need for a specified amount of time or to place with you on a temporary basis until you feel like you have found the one that fits in with your company and meets your expectations. You can then transition to hire them from the agency. Its a win-win all the way around because the temp agency does all the pre-screening and necessary background checks before they send them to you. If you find this person is not a good fit pretty quickly you just call the agency and tell them to send someone new tomorrow. There are also things you can put in place to assure you are making the right hires for the right job as well. That would be the least expensive and most productive way to go but that takes a bit longer so it depends on what is most important right now. I hope that helps.
