Educating my client to make their decision is very important to me. It is my goal to empower them and their successors. This is needed especially when a Business Owner cannot make the decision. I am so sorry for your loss! This is Life Changing and a time to really rethink what your vision and mission are and to set new goals. When losing a Business Partner, many Business Owners continue to operate the way they always have and find it doesn't work. Also since your business partner is your husband, there is the grief associated with not only missing your spouse but missing the everyday interaction on projects. As a Business and Estate Attorney, I advise my clients to step back and think about what they would like the next 10 to 15 years to look like. As their Trusted Advisor, I give them a list of questions as prompts to take 20 to 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee and just answer the questions and email them to me. We then set up a meeting to review their answers against history to be able to work together on making changes. As a Tax Advisor, Estate and Business Planning Attorney, this helps the person talk through their goals, their fears and get them excited about making changes. Self Care during this time is very important and this will help move your forward.

In initial 15 minute phone call and/or emails I narrow the problems the client has, and email them a list of questions and request for documents in regard to that problem. They provide this documentation prior to the meeting understanding that both of our time is valuable. When we sit down for our first meeting, I have briefly reviewed the answers and the documents and am ready to discuss the facts and circumstances, law that effects them, and we start talking about the alternative solutions and the pros and cons of each. We discuss costs and the people involved, so the prospect can make an educated decision that is right for them to go forward. Many times the pricing is structured at phases in hopes that we can solve the problem quickly and to their satisfaction and time line. At all times we discuss how they can avoid this problem in the future. My goal is to build a relationship with my clients, help them think proactively, and make good decisions for them.
