Our service is quite simply, unique and without downside. We work with businesses to save money with an existing vendor. In meeting with us, there are only two possible outcomes to our analysis: You either gain peace of mind that you have competitive card processing rates already (and you can now ignore the 40 odd sales reps calling you each year), or we use True North's experience to renegotiate better rates with your current processor. I also help businesses migrate to new processors if their current relationship is not tenable - we are here to facilitate pricing integrity regardless of processor.

How We Got Started
After working in National Account sales for card processors for 17 years, I became very disillusioned with the lack of transparency, pricing integrity and clarity in the industry. So much so, that I saw the need for Merchant Advocacy and founded True North to help businesses make sense of their credit card pricing. What we do is unique as we do not sell processing services: we work only for you, our client, to ensure that your card processing costs are ultra-competitive.

Telling my story offers very quickly how we differ from any other consultant, and thanks for the question. As critical background, I come from 17+ years experience in the Credit Card Processing world. Any business owner out there, especially bricks and mortar, knows that they could have 40+ reps calling them in any six month period all offering better rates than the next guy. As soon as merchants hear "card processing", they tense up and feel nauseous because this industry has truly become one of questionable ethics with dozens of players in the country. Merchant statements are designed to be unreadable/ incomprehensible plus many processors add fees mid-contract, out of the blue. With all the different offers coming in, businesses are exasperated and don't know who to trust and this is where we come in. If you were about to buy a Lexus, wouldn't you want a former Lexus salesman negotiating on your behalf?..
I saw the ethics of my employer changing and I decided to go out on my own to focus on Merchant Advocacy; we now help businesses to understand if they have competitive rates and if not, we help re-negotiate fees with their current processor, or find them even better rates elsewhere if needed. We are compensated through savings so there is no money out of pocket. I describe my consultancy as Merchant Advocacy; I help businesses save money and make sense of convoluted and nonsensical Merchant Statements. In my industry, there was no one representing merchants' interests, so I have become a contingency-based, merchant advocate and negotiations expert. I work solely for my clients, helping them to make sense of and reduce, their card processing costs, usually working with the existing vendor to boot! I sell nothing nor do I charge for my analysis to help you know where your card processing costs stand. At the very least, you might finally have Peace of Mind with this expense line. THAT is why I started my merchant consulting firm.
