Be authentic. Speak to what you know and share to help the community. Real networking only works when trust is established. Don't look at this as a "networking" thing but as a way of creating a valuable relationship that is mutual.

Unfortunately, "good faith" is bad for our business. A client signature on a project scope and fee is priceless. Since they have not paid, you might be able to send a cease and desist order as they do not have rights to use work that you created without compensation.

We've, unfortunately, had very similar situations but have found that the more you lay out right up front and get a signature on, the less likely they are to skip out on payment.

Also consider thought leadership webinars. They are an awesome way to connect with your target audiences. You can also share proprietary content and engage live via polls and Q&A. Promote through LinkedIn groups and even (potentially) run a small ad campaign on LI or FB groups.

I agree with Beth and Robert. You have to set strategic goals first and foremost. Who's your audience? Where are they? Why would they care about what your product is? Who is the leading voice or voices in this space? You don't have to spend a ton of money, but the money you do spend needs to be...

Who is the leading voice or voices in this space? You don't have to spend a ton of money, but the money you do spend needs to be well informed and adjustable based on insights and analytics so you can refine your messages over time. Again, without a strategy, you're throwing money out the window.
