My biggest advice is to implement policies, procedures and tools. If put extremely simply. If you have the opportunity to transfer that risk to a 3rd party company, that could also be a good option. There is a large disconnect we see between your executive suite and your IT department, so sometimes an extra set of eyes can help bring that conversation together for the well being of the company.
