You say flashy in the context wherein its a bad thing 9/10 times. I say if flashy means well branded, targeted and user friendly, then YES flashy is KING.
the quote begs the question... are there other variables to success? of the top of my head, there is luck (right place right time), network (who you know), and charisma. I am sure there are others.

The three top ways to get business online are via PPC, SEO, and Email. Everyone will say word of mouth because it is not something you can use against them. The key is to find something that works and commit to it. If it works, eventually it will become saturated and then it will stop working. Then the weak hands will drop out and it will start working again. Also, I always recommend trying anything as long as it won't put you out of business if it doesn't work and as long as you do not sign any long-term contracts.
Word of mouth is the slowest way to add clients. Word of mouth and networking trade your time for your money, so if you don't have an advertising budget then it makes more sense. Just be careful the word of mouth you get is not based on price in any way. There is a saying 'price, quality, turnaround time; choose two'. Be known for quality and turnaround time. One last thing regarding word of mouth; I prefer review sites. Tell your happy clients to tell a friend yes, but also to post a positive review for you somewhere.

i would choose none. i would put the logo at the bottom. I would also add 'fire station' under 'architecture set' assuming the fire station set is a part of a series of architecture sets. i would choose one tagline since you currently have two taglines so 'design build reimagine' would work under...

There is a difference between working in your business and working on your business. As long as a business owner has customers they can procrastinate the rest. Something breaks, sales are down and they wait until they are desperate and need a savior.

what do you value your time to be worth per hour? how many hours do you want to spend on each site? what is the cost per new client? what is a client worth including upsells? your question is really generic.

I look for the same feature in any host... customer service. Of course, I am assuming they have cpanel, offer malware protection, CDN, etc. Every host typically offers everything and hosting in general is commoditized so the tiebreaker is customer service.

the real question is how to find those that do and avoid those that do not.

The top 3 ways to get business online... SEO, PPC, EMAIL. It is always worth it do start and end with the numbers. For example, I have an attorney client that spends $2500/mo. on adwords and last 12 mo averaged $10k/mo. in closed business. Can you spend it elsewhere and get better return? Maybe....

But you should track it then decide.

quick question for the creatives here reading this... How many Realtors do you have as clients? Or better yet, what percentage of your income is attributed to Realtors?
