It depends on your business.  We know a guy in the window repair business who would fold up his flyer and put in a zip lock baggie, along with a rock.  He would drive around at night and throw them through people's windows.  His business tripled in about 2 months, all as a result of the flyers.  Ingenious!

Your firm must deal in a lot of estate jewelry & precious metals, so this type of direct marketing would definitely work for you!  Just look through all the obituaries and drive by those specific houses, and throw zip lock baggies with a rock & your flier through their window.  Then just sit back & wait for your phone to blow up!

Hope this helps!

Flyers are one element in a local marketing campaign. They complement other marketing you are doing, such as newspaper ads, door to door meeting people, giving speeches to local groups, making introductory offers, and on. Flyers help establish your visual identity.

While you may not see a 1 to 1 return on your flyers, ask customers whether they have seen your flyer. This will tell you that they flyers are supporting your other marketing efforts or that they need improving.

Depending on the business and the market, they can be very effective.  When we work with clients, we always first determine how potential buyers seek information when making their buying decision.  Once we know this, we recommend the appropriate media to be "front and center" to that buying market.  If a flyer promo is the right tool that the client's market responds to, then we will recommend it.  But, it all depends on where buyers look for info and the media that delivers it.  There is, unfortunately, no silver bullet!  Some marketing tactics work for some businesses, while others do not - and that covers the gamut of marketing options.

Over the past 20 years or so I was told several times that flyers were the way to go for attracting new business. Several times I invested hundreds of dollars in mass flyer mailings. I recall getting exactly one call as a result.

Very poor ROI. I truly believe that folks are so use to getting so much useless mail they don’t even bother to look at it anymore.

One of my clients regularly uses EDDM to target his audience. This isn't the ONLY tool in the marketing plan, but one that supports the firm's visual identity and presence in the marketplace. I was contacted to assist a new team member to begin their branding and visual identity to be compatible with the imagery and message already familiar in customers' minds.

Just like an auto can't run on gas alone, it still needs oil, a transmission and several other supporting players. Flyers fall into the same category, a supporting component of the marketing plan. It should be an echo of your other marketing materials to present a consistent brand and message.

Its my main source of advertising.  I am a non profit without the designation so cannot afford to pay for most ads.  I am an art gallery with local artists, word of mouth, sharing on instagram/facebook is the only other way.  I send info to the media but sometimes they print my info and sometimes not.

It is very rare for a flyer  to generate new business.  There are many cost effective ways to reach your target market.  However 10% of your gross sales is a good gauge for your marketing budget. It is important to understand that your marketing dollars are an investment in to your business and will generally always play a key role in increasing your market share

It depends on what you are marketing...and where you post them! In the health, wellness and fitness industry I am convinced flyers are second only to a unique business card as a promotional aid. Posting flyers at health fairs, coffee shops, sports and fitness apparel outlets and at marathon events can be a low cost, highly effective means of marketing. Research shows people seek health and fitness services in close proximity to where they live or work. It costs less than $25 to run off and distribute a flyer in the neighborhood within a mile of your service.

As flyers should be only one part of your marketing efforts, they may be mildly, or wildly beneficial.  First - are you getting them into the hands of your IDEAL customers and prospects, or just to the masses?  If you can identify thost ideal customers and get more flyers to them than the world at large, you will likely see better results.  Not everyone is 'your' customer.  Figure out who the IDEALs are and focus on them.  I probably recycle more flyers and mailings immediately than I buy from. I'm just not their customer.

When we were brick and mortar the only flyers that worked for us were the multi page Christmas sales flyers that were furnished by the suppliers and inserted in the Sunday paper mid December .  Right now I'd advise EDDM programs if your paying for the printing and distribution as you can target the local delivery areas that would predominantly be your customer base. Depending on your audience Facebook and Instagram ads can provide a very targeted and relatively inexpensive promotion.
